How to Read a CoA

General Information

Please use dependable packaging for your samples. Place each sample in an individual, securely sealed container to prevent any leakage or breakage.
Remember to label each sample with the unique sample ID you have provided on the sample request form.
This reference will also be included on the Certificate of Analysis (COA) to ensure a clear association between the COA and the respective sample.

You can send your samples via courier to Unit 13, Kingfisher Park, Ou Paardevlei Rd, The Interchange, Cape Town, 7130 or you can bring your samples to our facility.

Our in-house testing turnaround time ranges from 3 – 5 business days. For our subcontracted work, this process can take anywhere from 7 – 10 business days.

A Certificate of Analysis (CoA) is a document provided by the laboratory that summarises the results of tests and analyses performed on a specific product.

We use high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with ultra-violet (UV) detection as well as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS).

High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is a technique used to separate and quantify compounds in a liquid sample, while gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) combines gas chromatography to separate compounds and mass spectrometry for compound identification in gaseous samples, making it suitable for volatile and semi-volatile compounds analysis.

API screening refers to the process of analysing and identifying Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) in products or samples. APIs are the primary components in medications or compounds responsible for their therapeutic effects.

Fingerprinting refers to the process of identifying and characterising substances or compounds based on their unique chemical or physical properties. It is a fundamental technique used in various scientific fields, including chemistry, forensics, pharmaceuticals, and environmental analysis.

Cannabis Testing

We can test plant material, edibles, oils, extracts, liquids, distillates and isolates.

In our potency analysis, we test for CBDA, CBD, CBG, CBN, delta8 – THC, delta9 – THC and THCA. We also test for terpenes, heavy metals, residual solvents, foreign matter, total ash, moisture content, pesticides, mycotoxins and microbials.

For potency, we charge R998 per sample. We also charge R998 per sample for our terpene analysis. Please inquire to receive a quote for a full panel.

For potency testing on plant material, we require a 2g – 8g sample and for terpenes, we also require a 2g – 8g sample.
For extracts, we require at least a 1g sample.
For sample sizes for a full panel, please inquire with us as sample sizes can vary based on your specific need.

Sometimes results can be completely unexpected. This can happen for several reasons ranging from poor starter material, incorrect formulation, sample contamination and sample integrity.

Functional Mushroom Testing

We can test fruiting bodies, extracts, edibles, liquids and tinctures.

We can test for specific alkaloid content, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, full microbial panels, pesticides, residual solvents, heavy metals, and allergen screening for labelling. We also perform API screenings and fingerprinting services.

It depends on the price and availability of the reference standard. If a client is looking to quantify specific compounds, a reference standard will be bought in and an upfront cost will be incurred to acquire the reference material and set up the method.

For a basic API screening, we charge R1,200 per sample and for a full API screening with listed qualities, we charge R3,500 per sample. Please inquire with us for a full panel or if you require a custom analysis.

For an API screening on fruiting bodies, a 2g minimum sample is required.
For extracts we require a minimum sample of 1g.
For sample sizes for a full panel, please inquire with us as sample sizes can vary based on your specific need.

Sceletium Testing

We can test plant material, edibles, liquids, and extracts.

We can test for Sceletium alkaloids such as mesembrine, mesembrenone and mesembrenol. We can also test for full microbial panels, pesticides, residual solvents and heavy metals. We also perform API screenings and fingerprinting services.

For the determination of Alkaloids in Sceletium by HPLC with UV detection we charge R998 per sample. For a basic API screening, we charge R1,200 per sample and for a full API screening with listed qualities, we charge R3,500 per sample. Please inquire with us for a quote on a full panel or for a custom analysis.

For extracts, a minimum sample size of 1g is required.
For plant material, a minimum sample of 5g is required.
For sample sizes for a full panel, please inquire with us as sample sizes can vary based on your specific need.
